At the heart of this Chilean home designed for a family of five is a large double-height living area with small loft space above. Essentially a single level structure the height of the home allows for the addition of a smaller loft level without having to commit to building an entire second level.
Overlooking the bustling bay area in the distance the lovely home has a striking skillion roof and a large open plan living area with helical stairs on opposite ends. Designed by Vaughn McQuarrie a wall of glass connects the living are of the home on the lower level and the bedroom and home office on the mezzanine level with the view outside.
The has a polygon façade and its sash windows were one of the features that the homeowners wanted to preserve. Another distinctive trait of the house is the way in which the new internal walls and partitions sit some way away from the concrete beams and the niche between the two is illuminated using smart accent lighting.
Color is rarely seen here with a neutral palette industrial style lighting minimal bedrooms and the of glass and wood partitions shaping a smart space-savvy interior. A makeover that respects the old even while embracing the new!
The steel and glass roof of the terraces stands in contrast to the more stoic sight of concrete walls and ceiling of the living area kitchen and dining. One is soon left wondering whether one is indoors or outside thanks to the creative design that blurs traditional boundaries!
